August 2019 – Aliyah enjoyed her first adventure riding the waves like a boss! Grandma and Granddad tried out wave boarding for the first time, after an amazing demo by our nephew Jasper.
Jasper may be the most skilled and athletic of the bunch, but the rest of us plunged right in and learned the basics so as not to be completely upstaged! We’re pretty sure Aliyah was taking notes on all the finer points and let us all know that she wanted the next turn. But NO! Grandma got the next turn, so Aliyah could learn what NOT to do.
Marlene showed real promise in wiping out several times, but eventually got her “lake legs” and managed to get upright on the board a few times. Aliyah was still pretty sure she would get the next turn, but alas, Granddad was up next.
Aliyah pestered her mom to let her try wakeboarding, and when Mom pointed out that Aliyah didn’t know how to wakeboard, she responded, “I bet if I watch Grandma, I will know how.” No lack of confidence there! Long story short, guess who finally won that argument?
Her cousin Jasper stayed with her in the water to make sure she stayed safe, and the boat slowly pulled her forward. Her response? “Faster!”
Aliyah asked to stop the boat so she could put on her goggles, because she wanted to look underwater and the water hurt her eyes. So we stopped and Jasper helped her put on her goggles, and she was much happier.
And off we went again, except this time Aliyah asked Jasper to hold on to the bar (so she could have the towbar all to herself…)
She liked this arrangement much better, and even started kicking her legs as if that would further increase her speed. She was really getting into the whole adventure.
She even took a moment to look around under the water when the boat was stopped…
When the adventure was finally over, we all said thank you to the awesome instructor/boat captain. At then end of the day, a good time was had by all, and we all left knowing more than when we started.
